I have been making, support and training people on using PCs for video editing since 1995, so has built up a huge amount of knowledge and experience of the kind of problems that can occur. I can diagnose a video editing problem a lot quicker than people who only have general computer knowledge. I also have access to all the major problems and various video editing hardware so can test out problems and find a decent solution or work-around.

If you would like my help then please either phone 07443 512146 or email david@dvctraining.co.uk. Support costs £60 for the first hour and then £30 per hour for work carried out on the same problem.

You will not be charged from the moment you get in contact, and very small problems will not incur the full £60. The cost will be agreed at the end of the support call and then you can either pay by Paypal, BACS or send a cheque.

Bring your computer to DVC HQ for work

Some problems cannot be diagnosed over the phone. Instead I will need to work on them physically. For this the machine will need to be returned to DVC HQ in Sussex. You can either bring your computer or send it by courier service. If you do not have a courier service I can arrange to get the machine picked up and sent back.

Only send or bring the machine back after discussing the situation first with me by phone or email. Typically the charge for working on a machine at DVC is £300 for a day, although in many cases the work does take longer than a day to complete.

Why would you want to bring the machine into DVC HQ?

  • The computer is not starting or has some other hardware issue which cannot be dealt with over the phone.
  • The computer needs a complete re-install of Windows and all the software re-installed and tested.
  • You have been using the computer for a few years and feel it is getting “clogged up” and would like it refreshed.
  • You want to upgrade the operating system or add a faster main hard drive.

Remote control of your computer for diagnosing problems

I can also take over your computer to help diagnose problems. This only works well if you have a decent internet connection. The simplest way to do this is to use program called Team Viewer, which is free for personal use.  This lets me take over your PC and see exactly what you see, check settings and make changes.

You just need to download a program called Team Viewer Quick Support from here:  https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/windows/.

This program does not need to be installed and will only run when you tell it to, so you are not leaving your machine open to being remote controlled all the time.  It can only be remote controlled if you tell me the ID number and password, which changes every time.  This makes it a very simple and secure way to offer remote support.
